Control

Yesterday my family went to Dana Point to enjoy the ocean.  It was a fabulous day.  I discovered that I can relax even when my life is not perfect.   I ended the week on Friday somewhat dismayed by a few work related things but,  I was able to have an enjoyable weekend.   Having fun when everything is not just right has never been easy for me.  I prefer when things are going my way.

The second point I want to share with you is that control is very limited.  We can’t control other people or circumstances outside of our reach.  But we can maintain a positive outlook and put faith in action.

There is no guarantee how things will turn out, but you can still be happy anyway.  You can be happy for what you do have and be grateful for what you can give.

If control is something you struggle with there is hope.

The Good Life

The Good Life.  That does sound appealing.  Would you say that you have a “good” life.   This year has been challenging for us in many ways, but I’m inspired today to talk about all the good things that I am grateful for.   If you are my friend on facebook then you know that my daughter started kindergarten two weeks ago.  She is having a wonderful time.  Her teacher is fantastic and she has made new friends.  The school consistently gets great reviews.  This is one thing that I am grateful for.  That my daughter is attending a good school.

Serving at my local church is another part my good life.  I have been involved with the children for several years now and I am looking forward to take on the new role of teaching health and wellness.  I am grateful to be able to give of my time for a much needed cause not just in my church but in the larger community.   This is one thing that I am grateful for.  I am part of a larger goal for a good cause.

I have a supportive network of people that are always cheering me on.  I don’t think I would be as motivated to help others if it weren’t for all the people who never tire of helping me.  It’s a lesson that you can’t learn from a book.  You have to experience it first hand.   Having people around me makes life good.  I don’t ever want to be without my friend network.   I hope to inspire others to be a friend to someone else.  Relationships are the fabric of life.  This is one thing I am grateful for.

I feel very fortunate to be able to live and be my purpose.  There are many good books that deal specifically with the concept of purpose.  The first book I ever read about purpose was the landmark book by Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life.  It addresses the question we all ask eventually, What on earth am I here for?   The second book I read was True Purpose by Tim Kelley.  It addresses  the question, What I am uniquely designed to do?   The third book I read about purpose was Pathway to Purpose for Women by Katie Brazelton.   You may see a necessary progression in the order I read the books.

First was my desire to understand from a qualified Bible teacher what is my role in the larger, broader picture of life here on earth in relation to an all knowing and all loving God.  Clearly the only place to start.  Secondly, there-in lies an assumption that if I have a part to play (as Rick Warren points out) then I would be able to know what it is.  And Tim Kelley’s book clearly brings that to life.  Thirdly, as a woman, I was totally baffled by the large brush strokes in the canvass Rick Warren paints.  How can I live a big life when I’m juggling daily with what is already on my plate?  Good question.  Katie Brazelton does an amazing job piecing together my to-do list, my passions and God’s purpose for my life.

The good life is not just what is happening right now, it also refers to what is going to be in the near future.  So do I have a “good” life?  Absolutely!

And your life is full of good too.   I used to hesitate to say things that could be perceived as trying to “cheer” you up.  But I have found that words are like magic.  To speak something out loud is very powerful.   The right words bring new life to a situation.  Words have the power to transform people and possibilities.

Here’s to your good life!

Progressive

Progressive thinking is the way to propel yourself into a whole new world.  Sometimes you have to be “radical” to get ahead.  I don’t mean this in a corporate sense.  A whole new mindset will help you find the meaning and fulfillment that you long for.  But remember that you can’t solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it.   You must find a new way to see things and from this new vantage point you will see ways to move forward.  Ways you would never have thought of before.  That is the power of radical, progressive thinking.

What would you like to do different in the next 30 days?  What would you give anything to change? These are the kind of questions that force you into progressive thinking.  You know the answer cannot be found in your day planner, blackberry or inbox.  You need something (or someone) to show you (guide you, walk with you, lead you) to the new vantage point.  And from there the answer will become clear.

The world awaits the new you!

Social Support

Today at a networking luncheon I was reminded of the benefits of having a team of people who support you in your life goals.  After an hour and a half of being in a room full of business minded professionals I felt like I could conquer any obstacle.  It was really a great experience.

How about you? Who are your top supporters?  Who do you turn to when you have run out of steam and feel like you need to rejuvenate your spirit? If you can’t think of anyone, don’t worry.  You are not alone.  Today’s society is one of ultra-connection: blackberry, cell, laptop…. However, as a group, we are also an extremely lonely generation.  The busy-ness of life has made it more difficult to nuture relationships.

Word to the wise.  Don’t neglect your key relationships for social support and soul support.

Small Step

Ever wonder how “amazing” advancements are made?  Ever wonder what was the “magic” that helped Edison create the light bulb?  The truth is that “amazing” only looks that way after the fact.  The “magic” appears as such when all is complete.  The truth is there is nothing amazing going on during the process.  No magic transpires during the time of invention.

What is the truth then?  The truth is that it is a series of small steps that leads to the “amazing” discovery.  It is a series of simple, easy to do, steps that creates the invention.  Nothing magically appears over night.  It is a step by step journey to success, in the business world and in your life.

What do you want to achieve?  Are you stuck in trap of “magical” thinking?  Are you waiting for the right time to start your weight loss plan?  Are you waiting for the stroke of luck that will illuminate the one thing that will change everything?

“Someday” does not exist.  And if you are waiting for that “magical” moment when all your woes will become a thing of the past, you might be waiting for a very long time.  However, and this is the one sentence I hope you remember, you can take one small step today that will get you closer to your goal.  And the one small step you take just may be the amazing moment you’ve been waiting for.  You see, nothing on the outside is going to change until change occurs on the inside.  That’s where the discovery is going to happen.  The change on the inside is the bright illumination that will change the rest of your life.  But it all begins with one small step.

Detox

The natural health principles of detox and cleansing can change the way your body functions.  On a physical level it is easy to see the implications and benefits.  When you exercise, the body releases toxins through the pores (persperation).   Any obstruction of the waste removal systems will cause the body to operate in a comprimised state.

The same principle applies to our emotional health.  When we are sad, angry, or depressed there is an accumulation of negative  energy in the body.  The cleansing process will be experiencial and you will know if you have effectively released the negative energy by how you are thinking and feeling.  Thereby affecting the way you behave.  This is the outward fruit that others see.

How do you cleanse out the negative in your life?  What do you do to “let go”?

Choice

This is the key to living a healthy life.  You can choose what to eat and when to eat.  You can choose your attitude to circumstances.  You can choose what to say to others and what not to say.  You can choose to integrate good advice into your life.  You can choose.

The power of choice is not a noval concept.  It dates back thousands of years and can be found in the philosoplies of China and India.  Of course you can also pick out the theme of choice in holy scriptures of Judiasm and Christianity.  How can such diverse cultures have a similar message?  Because choice is not a “religious thing”,  it is a human thing.  Choice is inherent to the human experience.  To be human means to have choice.

The next time you pick up a book on relationships, healthy living, deepening your relationship with God, career advancement, parenting, or aging gracefully, remember that the key to understanding, compassion, and change is CHOICE.

The awareness of choice is the key to building any kind of true success in any area of your life.

Relaxation

This may not sound easy these days as many people are feeling crunched by “the economy”, but if you haven’t learned how to relax there is no time like the present.  Why learn to relax?  There are many benefits of relaxation, most commonly thought of are the mental and emotional benefits.  Usually a positive experience for coping with stress.  But there’s more.

Did you know that your brain is constantly sending out waves and that these waves are a reflection of the thoughts going on in your head?  If there are any doubts that being stressed and anxious contribute to more of the same, let me answer that right now.  How you perceive things and your response to these things does impact what manifests in the real world.

If  you can learn to relax and practice it regularly, you are going to come out ahead of the curve.  Most people are always reacting to circumstances.  You don’t want to be like most people.  Choose to be in the rare 5% of our population.  Experience the benefits of relaxation to help you enjoy life and to have more in life to enjoy.

As Without So Within

It’s been many years now that I have been on a quest to exchange the hectic Orange County pace for a simpler reality.  It’s been a long journey and I can share a little bit with you.  There was discovering that my life was hectic.  And then of course the question, how did all this chaos get here.  What really matters.  What am I willing to let go.  How do I let go of it.   What would I like to change.  What would I like to change about me.

Give each of these phases 6-9 months and you piece together the last 6 or 7  years of my life.  Crazy I know but it’s true.   I cringe at the thought of what my life was before and who I was then.  I do not want to go back.  I rather like the present.  In fact I learned to like or at least accept every phase I was in.  If I was willing to look at everything outside of me as a teacher, it wasn’t so scary.  Just this one skill helped transform my life.  (By the way, I still live in Orange County.)

Now, when chaos knocks at the door, I don’t run to open the door and fix it.  I’ve learned to say yes to joy, peace, and simplicity.  Whenever you say to one thing, you have to say no to something else.  I learned to say no to chaos.  How about you?  What is the chaos that steals your joy and peace?

Untapped Potential

Ever wonder how much you could get done, if you put your mind to it?  Ever wonder how successful people reach amazing heights in their career?  Ever wonder how?

Now that I got your attention, let me ask you another question.  If I may.  What makes one person successful and another person unsuccessful?

I can’t go in depth into any of these question here, however I can give you some food for thought as you go about the rest of your day.  The brain is capable of amazing things.  The human spirit can endure and rise above unspeakable obstacles.   So how much are you capable of?

I encourage you to walk through this door of opportunity without judgement.  See what you see.  Hear what you hear.  Feel what you feel.  You are capable of great things.  I believe it.  If there’s a mountain, you can move it.  If there’s a river, you can cross it.  There is a way, and you can find it.
